The Standard You Coach To At LFG

LFG Training · Erina NSW · Let's FKN Go
Section 01

What LFG Is About

LFG Training, led by Head Coach James Hall, exists to help people train for specific goals through specialised, progressive programming. Every program runs in structured blocks. Every member is working toward something measurable.

The ethos: members train hard toward real goals, inside an enjoyable, supportive environment, led by enthusiastic coaches who align with these values. Good vibes and an inclusive floor are not optional extras. They are part of the product.

High standards, applied consistently. Encouraging first. Correct movement when it can be done better. Members leave better than they arrived.

Coaches Are Part Of LFG, Not Just On The Roster

LFG coaches are expected to be fully part of the gym, not just turn up for their classes:

  • Train at LFG when possible, alongside members, as one of them
  • Compete for LFG in team events such as Hyrox and Turf Games
  • Be an ambassador for the gym. You are the standard members look at, on and off the floor
Section 02

The Programs

Build

Strength-focused. Runs on 12-week blocks progressing to 1RMs. Structured sections, coached progressively through the session.

Engine

Conditioning-focused, erg-centric. Runs on 12-week blocks progressing to erg benchmarks. Delivered alongside Build in the same class.

Hybrid

The comprehensive program combining strength and conditioning for members chasing both.

Hyrox

LFG is a Hyrox affiliate. Race-specific training, plus monthly track days at Mingara.

Build and Engine run as a combined class: strength on the left, conditioning on the right, one coach running both. How that flow works is covered in Section 06, and it is a core LFG coaching skill.

Section 03

Coach Qualifications

LevelRequirement
MinimumLevel 4 Coaching / Personal Training award, or equivalent
PreferredAn additional higher award in Strength & Conditioning or CrossFit
DesirableWeightlifting experience or qualifications; a background or genuine interest in sport

You Must Also Hold And Maintain

  • Valid CPR / First Aid certification and fitness registration (as applicable in NSW)
  • Public liability insurance of at least $10 million
  • Professional indemnity insurance of at least $1 million
  • A personal accident and illness insurance policy
  • A current Working With Children Check (WWCC)

Proof of insurance must be provided on request. Coaches are expected to undertake further training and courses to keep upskilling, at management's discretion.

Section 04

Conduct & Presentation

LFG coaches uphold the highest standards in training quality and professionalism. Coaching at LFG means being encouraging first, with the fine balance of correcting members when movement can be performed better.

Presentation

  • Appear presentable. Wear LFG-branded clothing where possible, minimum an LFG T-shirt while coaching
  • LFG provides two coaching T-shirts initially, with more provided based on requirement and duration with LFG
  • Otherwise: professional training attire
  • Suitable footwear only. No open-toe shoes

Commitment & Cover

  • Take a minimum of 2 group classes per week and keep those class times regular
  • Give a minimum of 24 hours notice if cover needs to be arranged
  • Any substitute must hold the required qualifications and insurances, and LFG must be informed in writing before they deliver a session (see terms)

Onboarding Before You Coach

Minimum of 4 LFG sessions before coaching your first class. You participate as a member, but the objective is learning LFG operating procedures: the flow, the standards, how the room runs. The manager may vary this at their discretion.

Solo Responsibility

You may be the only coach in the venue while taking a class or PT session. The gym is left in the condition a paying member expects to find it:

  • Clean up any mess, take out full bins, keep the space tidy
  • Turn off all power and lock up when you are last out

Schedule Priority

The LFG class timetable and group bookings are the backbone. Coach PT businesses and personal use of the gym fit around it, never the other way around.

Section 05

Floor Standards

Every session, no exceptions:

  • Know where the block is at. Brief members on the session and where it sits in the current program block
  • Demonstrate. Prime and main exercises are explained and demonstrated before members are set off
  • Group appropriately. Members are placed into suitable groups for strength work
  • Coach in sections. Never dump the whole session at once. Brief, complete, brief the next
  • Correct with care. Encourage first; correct movement when it can be done better
  • Leave it right. Equipment reset, floor tidy, gym as a paying member expects it
Arrival & BriefTen minutes before class, take the class through the Prime. Briefly explain the movement, the main movement, and the intent of the session, then go through the Prime.
Section 06

Running Build + Engine Together

One coach. Strength on one side, conditioning on the other, simultaneously. This is a skill, and it is the core of coaching an LFG class. The flow:

  1. 01Welcome the class. Tell the room you're starting with Build while Engine warms up on the ergs.
  2. 02Build first. Brief overview of what's to come and where the session sits in the program. Explain the prime exercises, demonstrate, set them off.
  3. 03Across to Engine. Explain the session and give them their prime exercises. Tell them you'll be back to explain the session fully and set them off.
  4. 04Back to Build. Explain the first main exercise, demonstrate, make sure members are in suitable groups, set them off.
  5. 05Back to Engine. Explain the main component and set them off.
  6. 06Both running: float between the two. Build, by nature, needs more attention. Roughly 60 to 70% of your attention sits on Build.
  7. 07Build runs section by section. Let participants complete each section before explaining the next. Don't overwhelm them by explaining the whole session at once.
  8. 08Engine second component. Once Engine has completed their main work, set them off on their second component.

There's no hard rule here. The flow comes from reps coaching in the LFG environment, which is exactly why you complete your onboarding sessions before you lead.

Section 07

How We Treat Members

Members train for specific goals in a supportive, inclusive environment. Your job is to make every member feel coached: seen, encouraged, and moved forward, every session.

  • Encouraging first. Correction is delivered to make the member better, never to make the coach look sharp
  • Enthusiasm is part of the job. Bring energy to every class, including the 5am
  • Every member matters, from the newest trial to the longest-standing regular
New & Trial MembersWelcome them at the door at the first opportunity. Find out their motivation and how they found out about us. Explain how things work here — e.g. how Build is progressive with the Upper/Lower/Upper/Lower split, how Engine works off benchmark scores like your 2k time, and that everything here has a purpose. Show them where to put their bag and where the toilets are. Be on hand for questions, and give extra attention to making sure they integrate with the group.
Section 08

Kids At LFG

LFG has always been a family-friendly gym. Kids are welcome, and we genuinely value that they see parents training, prioritising their health, and modelling positive behaviours. However, safety and the training experience of all members come first. As a coach, you enforce this policy.

The Policy

  • Blanket ban on kids using equipment. This includes, but is not limited to: runners, bikes, RowErgs, SkiErgs, weights and accessories
  • Applies before, during, and after all classes
  • Kids must not be running around the gym floor at any time

If Kids Are Present, They Must Either

  • Sit quietly on the bench and remain out of the training space, or
  • Be in the TV room, or
  • Be outside the gym area

This policy exists to ensure a safe environment for everyone, respect for members who are training, and longevity and care of gym equipment. It is not about excluding families. It is about maintaining clear standards.
